ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER RURAL AND REMOTE AGED CARE TRAINING PROJECT – QUEENSLAND

Indigenous people living in rural and remote areas will receive aged care training in their own communities under an Australian Government plan to bring employment opportunities to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

The Department of Health and Ageing has engaged locally based Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) to deliver culturally appropriate, accredited and targeted training to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander aged care workers working in eligible Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander focussed aged care services in rural and remote regions of Queensland from December 2010 to July 2012.

The Department has engaged TAFE Queensland Regional, to deliver training to 27 services under the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander rural and remote aged care training project in Queensland. Further information about the project is available from the Department of Health and Ageing Fact Sheet.
